Walter F. Townsend, 90, of Mattapoisett, died January 15, 2002 at home after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Ruth E. (Robins) Townsend,and son of the late Robert E. and Isabelle F. (Sharples) Townsend.
Mr. Townsend was born in New Bedford and had lived in Catskill, New York for several years before moving to Mattapoisett in 1936.
Mr. Townsend was formerly employed at Revere Copper & Brass for many years until his retirement. He and his late wife also operated Bette Ann Doll Hospital out of their home in Mattapoisett.
He was an active member and former vice president and treasurer of UAW-CIO Local #168 in New Bedford.
Survivors include a son, Robert C. Townsend and his wife Deborah, of Buford, Georgia; a daughter, Elizabeth A. "Bette" Richard and her husband Harry, of West Yarmouth; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Harry Townsend.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Saturday, January 19th at 10:30 AM..
