TEWKSBURY - Robert F. Mann, 80, a well known and active Senior volunteer, died Sunday,Aug. 31, at Saint’s Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, after a five year battle with cancer. Hewas the husband of Marie T. (Sutton) Mann, with whom he had celebrated a 55th weddinganniversary this past April 19th.
He was born in Cambridge, Dec. 17, 1922, the son of William and Marion (Pike) Mann. He wasraised in Somerville, and graduated Somerville High School with the class of 1942. He lived inSomerville until moving to Tewksbury in 1954.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy, as a coxswain, aboard the U.S.S. Kennebec andU.S.S. Aurelia. He earned several medals and ribbons including an Asiatic-Pacific Star.
He retired from the Metropolitan District Commission as a Power Plant Operator at the AmeliaEarhart Dam in Medford.
He was a member of St. William’s parish in Tewksbury, a member of the Tewksbury-WilmingtonElks Lodge 2070, and was extremely active at the Tewksbury Senior Drop-In Center as avolunteer.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert W. “Bubba” Mann ofTewksbury, Richard P. “Dee” and his wife Theresa (Caron) Mann of Lowell; two daughters,Carol W. “Auntie” Mann of Franklin, NH, Patricia A. “Pudgy” Brothers-Klopenburg ofTewksbury; and two grandchildren, Jeremy Brothers and Stacey Burke.
His Funeral Mass was held Thursday, Sept. 4, in St. William’s Church. Burial was in TewksburyCemetery.
