Obituary

Mildred Darnell Walker, 81, Clarksville, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Hilldale Church of Christ with Brother Steve Kirby and Brother Roy Goodmiller officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10:00 AM until the hour of service Wednesday at the church. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born in Montgomery County, on Dec. 7, 1927, daughter of Rowland Darnell and Mamie Evans Darnell. She graduated from Clarksville High School. After graduation she went to work at Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation at the age of 17. She was affectionately known to workers as "Shirt-tail" given to her by Mike Northington, Sr.
After World War II she met and married Robert"Butch" Walker whom preceded her in death. They had two sons whom they were very proud of Greg N. Walker(Pat) a radio and T.V. personality, he is Austin Peay State University play by play announcer for basketball. Barry A. Walker, a Clarksville High School football player and a scholarship winner, also lettered in various sports. She also has one grandson, Nolan "Clete" Walker the highlight of her life, a brother Buford Darnell, all live in Clarksville.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she reflected God's love with her kind, generous and joyful spirit. She loved people and enjoyed meeting new friends. She had unconditional love for her church. Her christian attiude was in her daily walk with all those she loved and brought joy to all occasions. She asked that it be said to wish and express her deep affection and gratitude to all who provided loving care, friendship, and the many prayers in her last years. Pallbearers will be Mickey Darnell, Al Heise, Bobby Greene, Joe Greene, David Bursey, Gary Shoemaker, Teddy Biggar, Furman Muzzall, Tony Goodwin and Jay Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Miller, Dr. Jason James, Steve Windham, David Nussbaumer, Dorris Griffy, Mark Arrington, Mark Muiznieks, Marcus McClain, Scott Davis, Nick Muiznieks, David Cummings and John Rasori, and Elders and Deacons of Hilldale Church of Christ.
