Ferdinand X. Abreu, the husband of Mary C. (Miranda) Abreu, died at Falmouth Hospital on Oct. 29, 2009.
He was 89.
A Mashpee resident for the past few years, he was born and raised in Taunton, a son of the late Frank and Mary Abreu.
Educated in Taunton schools, he later served in the US Navy during WW II.
A former communicant of the former Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Taunton, Mr. Abreu was a retired superintendant, employed by the former General Findings/Leech & Garner Co. for over 20 years.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, tennis, and photography.
He also enjoyed reading, especially periodicals.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Sheila A. Threadgold and her husband Giles E. of East Falmouth; a son, Robert C. Abreu and his wife Katherine E. of Norton; a brother, Francis Abreu of Hartford, CT; 2 sisters, Mary Caldeira of Taunton, and Noella Ouillette of Mansfield; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by 2 brothers.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday, Nov. 2nd at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church, Taunton at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at the MA National VA Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30 p.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Nov. 1st from 5 to 8 p.m.
