Obituary

Lampros Koumpis, 94, of 81 Green Hill Pkwy, died Friday, August 29th in UMass Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of 67 years, Eleni (Bartzokis) Koumpis; a son, Ernest Koumpis of Worcester; 2 daughters, Chrysoula Vlahos of Dedham and Agnes Tsourides of Shrewsbury, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lampros was born in Epirus, Greece, a son of Ioannis and Agnes (Tsakou) Koumpis and came to Worcester in 1956.

He was a chef at the former Putnam & Thurston’s Restaurant for more than 17 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Senior Citizens, and the Lioton Epirotic Society.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd from Nordgren Memorial Chapel with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 5-7 PM, Monday, Sept., 1st in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester 01609 or Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester 01606.
