Thomas J. Johnson Sr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday October 28, 2009 at his home in Charlestown following a lengthy illness. He was 75 years old.
Tom was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools. He worked for many years in the Transportation Department for the City of Boston and was past president of Local # 783, AfSCME. He retired in 1999 as a foreman for the City of Boston.
Tom is the beloved husband of 53 years to Mary H. (Connolly) Johnson. He is the devoted father of Thomas J. Johnson Jr. and his wife Judy, Michael P. Johnson and his wife Christine and the late Daniel J. Johnson. He is the loving grandfather of Daniel, Kelsey, Thomas, Matthew, Kellie and Christina. He is the beloved brother of the late Ruth Harbrick, Ida Page, Alice Perry, Mary Pelletier, Helen Nichols, Arthur, Frederick, Richard, Harold and Walter Johnson.
Tom's Funeral will be held on Saturday October 31, 2009 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Friday October 30, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
