Obituary

Orlando A. “Andy” Avola, a long time Medford resident, died Thursday at the Wingate Nursing Home, Reading. He was 85.

Mr. Avola was born in Lawrence and raised in Boston’s North End, the son of the late Anthony and the late Maria (Restivo) Avola.

He was an electrician for many Boston area firms, and was a 62-year member of Local 103 of the IBEW. He retired in 1980.

He was the husband of the late Elena “Helen” (Coscarelli) Avola. He is survived bytwo daughters: Anna Maria Polcari and her husband Gerard of Reading, Diane Chesley of Saugus, and one son: Ronald J. Avola and his wife Sandra of Melrose.He leaves three sisters: Carmela Vitali of Quincy, Rose Fayad of S. Weymouth, and Rita Boucher of Burlington.Andy was the brother of the late Dr. Francis Avola, Josephine Maggio, Theresa Bourgeois, and Anthony Avola.He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Friends and relatives may visit Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Francis Of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, Tuesday at 10:00 am.Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 3 Bridge St., Suite 100, Newton, MA 02158.
