S. Marie (Rush) Mullen, a 15 year resident of Melrose and former 45 year resident of Arlington, died on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at her daughters home in Mashpee after a short and courageous battle with cancer. She was 83 years old. Marie is the beloved wife of 60 years to the late George Mullen who passed away on April 15, 2009.
Marie was born in Boston on January 6, 1926 to the late John and Julia (Clifford) Rush. She grew up in the Mission Hill section of Boston where she attended Mission Church Parochial School and graduated from Mission Catholic High School. Marie worked for many years as a typist for a manufacturing company. Marie loved to travel, taking several trips to Hawaii. She loved the beach, enjoyed music and her jazzercise group. She enjoyed her knitting group, she was a member of Orleans Lodge B.P.O.E., but most of all, Marie loved the quality time spending with her grandchildren and great-grandaughter.
Marie is the devoted mother of Debra McLaughlin and her husband Edward of Mashpee and Robert Mullen and his wife wife Toni of Malaysia. She is the loving grandmother of Keri Johnson and her husband Shawn, Jin Mullen, Tod Mullen and her great-grandaughter; Colleen Johnson. She is the beloved sister of John Rush of North Reading. Marie is also survived by many cherished friends.
Marie's Funeral will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose, followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, October 29, 2009, from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, Bourne on Friday at 1 p.m.
