Daniel J. O’Brien, a long-time resident of North Andover, passed away at home on October 23, 2009. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of Esther B. (Gorse) and the late Arthur H. O’Brien of Medford. He attended Somerville High School and enlisted in the Air Force after graduation. Upon discharge, Dan enrolled at Bentley College, where he was a member of their basketball team. He was the tax director for Camp, Dresser & McKee for several years. In his spare time Dan was a staunch Boston sports fan, and enjoyed playing basketball in local adult leagues. He was the beloved husband of Margaret J. “Peggy” (Pullo) and the dear brother of Robert O’Brien and his wife Andrea of North Andover, and Arthur “Buddy” O’Brien of Medford. Mr. O’Brien was the devoted uncle of Sheila and Brad Wieneke, and Lisa and Kenji Hosokawa and is further survived by his grandnieces Sena and Nami Hosokawa. His funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Tues., Oct. 27 at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Mon. 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan’s memory may be made to the Mass.
