Obituary

Brian J. Woolley, 52, of New Bedford, died Tuesday October 20, 2009 at home after a courageous battle with ALS. He was the best friend and husband of Maureen G. (Quann) Woolley; they had been married for 32 years. He was dedicated to his wife, children, family and his dog Coconut.

Born in New Bedford, the son of Thomas E. and Pauline C. (Levesque) Woolley, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Mr. Woolley was formerly employed as a truck driver for Hallsmith-Sysco and later was a shuttle driver for the Woods Hole-Martha's Vineyard-Nantucket Steamship Authority.

Mr. Woolley was the founder of Wasted Away, (now C.L.E.A.N.), a neighborhood environmental activist group. In 2008, he was honored as the Standard-Times Man of the Year. As co-founder and Skipper of the Nautical Whalers Parrot Head Club, he was involved in several community service events. He was a cancer survivor who participated in the Relay for Life. He enjoyed Jimmy Buffett concerts, NASCAR, Red Sox, Patriots, and sunsets with his wife.

Survivors include his wife; his parents; three children, Dr. Adam B. Woolley and his wife Dr. Kristy B. Wooler of Boston, Ashley A. Woolley and Alec J. Woolley, both of New Bedford; a brother, Thomas E. Woolley, Jr. of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews.

His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church, North Dartmouth. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-9 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
