ODELL, Herbert N. Jr. of Wayland died on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009. He was born in Cambridge on March 9, 1923 the son of the late Herbert N. Odell Sr and Ethel (Currie) Odell. Mr. Odell was the beloved husband for 65 years of Virginia M. (Jablonski) Odell of Wayland. He was the loving father of Christine A. Odell, MD and her husband J. Lance Lichtor of Wayland and Deborah Odell Hagan and her husband Harry A. Hagan of San Francisco, CA. Devoted grandfather of Sarah A. Lichtor; Stephanie A. Lichtor; Phillip A. Lichtor; Scott B. Lichtor; Michelle J. Lichtor and Brian Odell Hagen. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William P. Odell and Charles Odell. Mr. Odell has been a resident of Wayland for over 68 years and previously resided on Newton Highlands. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in Maine and attended Northeastern University. He served his country proudly during World War II as a Quartermaster Second Class with the United States Navy. He had a long career as a Methods Engineer with Courier-Citizens in Lowell. He served the Town of Wayland as a Selectman and a former Chairman from 1971 – 1981, on the Data Processing Committee from 1976 – 1988, with the Traffic Light Committee from 1984 – 1987 and on the Orchard Lane Advisory Committee from 1984 – 1985. He also served as an auxiliary policeman for many years. He and his wife Virginia were one of the original families to establish the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit and he served as an usher. He was a member of the VFW of Wayland, Charles Alward Post 1620.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (OFF Route 30), Wayland.
His funeral service will be on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 12:30 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 169 Rice Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Odell family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
