Dorothy Ann (Powers) O’Brien-Sullivan, a twenty year resident of Somerville and formerly of Medford, died at her home on Thursday morning, October 15, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel O’Brien and former wife of the late Paul F. Sullivan.
Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, on September 26, 1926, Dorothy was the beloved daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth B. (Turner) Powers. She had been employed as a waitress for many years at the Tavern Club in Boston. Dorothy loved to travel on cruises and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was well loved and always had a joke to tell and was always smiling. She was also a very generous person to her beloved family and friends.
She was the loving mother of Mary Ellen and her husband Ernest P. Caramanis of Salem, N.H., Sharon A. and her husband Michael R. Phelan of Burlington, Paul E “Sully” Sullivan and his partner Patti Simmons of Medford, Elizabeth A. and her husband Robert A. Luz of Arlington, Irene F. Farina-Sullivan of Arlington and Donald L. Sullivan of Somerville, cherished grandmother of Antonio Matos, Bobby Luz, Michelle Sullivan and Joseph, Paul and Keriann Farina, dear great-grandmother of Mason, Marisa and Marcus and was also the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was the late John, Donald, Daniel and Robert Powers.
Her funeral will be from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 514 High Street, Medford at 10 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday, October 19, 2009, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
