Lillian "Sis" (McGee) O'Neil, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Friday, October 16, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford after a lengthy illness. She was 75 years old.
Sis was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown, where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston in 1951. She worked a few years at New England Tel & Tel Company and later worked at The Charlestown High School cafeteria. She was very active for several years in the social and athletic activities at The Charlestown Girls Club. Sis was also a former member of the Daughters of Isabella # 1 of Charlestown.
Sis is the beloved wife of the late Matthew "Matty" O'Neil. She is the devoted mother of Matthew O'Neil of Norwood, Thomas P. O'Neil of Charlestown, Patricia Hughes of Derry, New Hampshire, Dr. Kathleen O'Neil-Smith of Newton and Maureen O'Flaherty of South Boston. She is the loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is the beloved sister of William Dyer of West Roxbury and Edward Dyer of Charlestown.
Sis's Funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
