Thomas Eugene Stamper, 70, Clarksville, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Gateway Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Dr. John David Laida officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. The remains are to be cremated. Tom's final journey will take him to Boot Hill Cemetery in Tombstone, AZ.. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born December 3, 1938 in Laurel, MS. He served in the US Navy from 1957-1961 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. He graduated from the Memphis Police Academy and worked as a police officer for the Memphis Police Department while going to school at the University of Memphis. He was an attorney and had served as General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge. He was a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association. Tom was a retired Reserve Officer with the Montgomery County Sheriff Department and the Clarksville Police Department. Mr. Stamper was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Avery Stamper, his mother, Wilmirth (Billie) Schaefer, and stepfather, Dr. Ernest Schaefer. Survivors include his wife of almost 27 years, Laura Stamper; five sons, Lance Stamper (Martha), Ardmore, TN; Scott Stamper (Rachel), Atlanta, GA; Thomas Stamper, Jr. (Tera), Seattle, WA; Avery Stamper, Clarksville; and Christopher Stamper, Clarksville; a daughter, Serena Stamper, Seattle, WA; a sister, Carol Liess (Don), Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Julia,Tom, Bradley,and Nicolas; his first wife, Gail Sant, Seattle, WA; and surviving aunts, Marjorie Snyder, Mary Shelton, and Sara Plaskett. Pallbearers will be Jack Wallace, Jack Mitchell, Don Jenkins, Mark Rassas, Judge Wayne Shelton, Dr. Doug Porter, Kevin Underwood, and Jeff Moe. Honorary pallbearers will be David Plaskett, Sr., Kenneth Snyder, Don Liess, Leslie Liess, Darren Liess, Paul Kerker, Steve Hood, Jim Nicol and Mike Krausser. Tom's family requests in lieu of flowers to make contributions to Habitat for Humanity or just do something kind for someone in need.
