Obituary

Katherine E. “Kay” (Snell) Tobin, 89, died peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, N.H. following a brief illness.
She was born in Framingham on December 3, 1919 the daughter of the late Norman and Mary (Burns) Snell.
Kay is survived by her loving children; Retired Sr. Chief Stephen W. Tobin and his wife Verna of Gretna, LA; Linda M. Schavone and her husband David of Marlborough and Gregory H. Tobin and his wife Nelda of Effingham, NH. Beloved grandmother of James F. Tobin, IV of Tampa, FL; Victoria Sweet of Framingham; Joanne Blieler and her husband Ed of Sudbury; Jill Meyers and her husband Eric of Tampa, FL; Tracey Tobin-Beltre and her husband Tulin of Holden; Stephen Tobin , Jr. and his wife Laura of Hopkinton, NH; Erin Underwood of Gretna, LA; Christopher Tobin of Gretna, LA; David Schavone, Jr. and his wife Sarah Pavia of Venice, CA; Michael Schavone and his companion Kelly Bisbee of Stow, VT; Brian Schavone of Marlborough; Jessica Becker and her husband Ted of Whitefield, NH; Kelly Tobin and her fiancé Aaron Beck of Dover, NH and Gregory Tobin, Jr. and his companion Leah Ryan of Bennington, VT; Step-grandmother of Troy Dyson of Framingham. Also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Sister of Ralph Snell of Bristol, NH and Raymond Snell of Captain Cook, HI. Wife of the late James F. Tobin, Jr. who died in 1986, mother of the late James F. Tobin, III who died in 2005 and grandmother of the late Kimberly Ann Tobin.
Kay had been a resident of Cochituate for over 40 years before retiring to New Hampshire with her husband 30 years ago. She spent her formative years in Framingham and was educated through the Framingham school system. Kay had a long and distinguished career as a waitress at the Mansion Inn in Cochituate and then with the Sea and Surf Restaurant in Framingham. She was a master bridge player and traveled all over New England to play in tournaments. While residing in Cochituate she was an active communicant at Saint Zepherins Church and their woman’s club and enjoyed the many whist parties. While residing in New Hampshire she was active at Our Lady of the Mountains Church. Kay enjoyed gardening and was devoted to her family who was the center of her life.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Cochituate Village, and Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 9:15 am followed by her funeral mass at 10:00 am at St. Zepherins Church, 99 Main St (Route 27) Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Tobin family lot in Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests gifts in her memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
