WESTPORT … Grace C. “Gracie” (Potter) Allen, 86, of Westport and formerly of East Hanover, NJ died at home after a long illness.
She was the widow of Paul J. Allen.
She was born in New Bedford a daughter of the late Kenneth A. and Beatrice (Edgerton) Potter and was raised in Westport and had lived in New Jersey most of her life coming back to Westport 2 years ago.
She was a member of Kitchell Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was very active and served on the Board of Deacons.
She was employed by New Jersey Bell working in Morristown, Boonton, and retiring from Cedar Knolls in 1985 after 31 years.
Gracie was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, I.B.E.W Union, Pack 20 in East Hanover where she served as Quarter Master and Assistant Pack Leader. She enjoyed photography, traveling, and going to Foxwoods Resort and Casino, Cortez Allen chapter #161 Order of the Eastern Star, Westport Grange, and spending time with her grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include 4 sons: Paul J. Allen of Rockaway, NJ, George J. Allen II of Randolph, NJ, Mark E. Allen of East Hanover, NJ, William J. Allen of Dartmouth, MA, 2 daughters: Virginia W. Allen of Hackettstown, NJ and Susan R. Schubert of Gilbert, PA, 10 grandchildren: Paul J. Allen of Fall River, VA Lopes of New York City, William E. Lopes of Fall River, Kirby R. Allen of Dartmouth, Emma J. Schubert of Gilbert, PA, Scott W. Allen of Dartmouth, Chase E. Schubert and George H. Schubert both of Gilbert, Bowen R. Allen and Hayden B. Allen both of Dartmouth, a great granddaughter Jaelynn C. Lopes of Fall River, several nieces and nephews, cousins John Ruggles, Irene Riley, Gladys Lagasse, Richard P. Potter, Jonathan H. Potter, Jr., Jean Murphy. She was mother of the late Catherine P. Lopes and Robert D. Allen and sister of the late Ruth E. Potter and Donald L. Potter.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Friday at 10AM at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport. Calling hour Thursday 5 – 8 PM. Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
Arrangements are by the SOUTH COAST FUNERAL HOME, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River. Memorial service to be announced at a later date to be held at Kitchell Memorial Presbyterian Church, East Hanover, NJ.
