Mary Angela (Conte) Abate, age 84, of Main Street, Noank, passed away Tuesday at Mystic Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Hudson, NY on June 26, 1925 one of 9 children to John and Anna (Cafaregola) Conte.
In earlier years, she was employed at Arwood Corp. and the Abate Dental lab. For a period of time, she and her husband owned and operated the Noank Luncheonette during summer months.
Known for her strong faith, Mrs. Abate was a communicant of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church where she also served on the social committee. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and will be remembered for her extensive knowledge of current events. Most of all, she took great pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Abate; a daughter, Carol A. DeRiso of Denville, NY; her siblings, Margaret Jennings of Claverack, NY, Anna Hafner of Schenectady, NY, Louis Conte of Hudson, NY, Vincent Conte of Schenectady, and John Conte of Hudson, NY; and two grandchildren, Karen O’Brien and David DeRiso. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Frank Conte, and a sister, Antoinette Jablonski.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Rd, Groton on Saturday at 10am. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery, Old Mystic. There are no calling hours.
