Obituary

Saint Isabel Victoria Goard Maffett, 85, of New Bedford died Saturday August 23, 2003 at Savoy Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late David Maffett.

Born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late James Olie Goard and Victoria (Johnson) Boykins, she lived in New Bedford for many years.

Saint Maffett was an active member of United House of Prayer, where she served as a member of the McCullough Usher Board and as a holiday worker. She joined the United House of Prayer in Columbia, South Carolina in 1928. She had been a faithful Sunday School member and piano player in her earlier years. In 1945, Bishop Charles M. Grace, the founder of the United House of Prayer, sent Mrs. Maffett and her late husband to work with their Church in New Bedford.

Survivors include several cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and a host of other relatives and good friends.

Her Homegoing Service will be held on Tuesday August 26, 2003 at 10 AM in the United House of Prayer, 419 Kempton St., New Bedford. Viewing will be at the House of Prayer on Tuesday morning from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
