Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Andrew P. Janice, age 77, a Tewksbury resident for over 50 years, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009 at home with his family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Eleanor L. (Queenan) Janice, with whom he celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on September 8, 2009.
Born in Stoneham on June 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Pericles and Susan (Crooker) Gianacoples.
Mr. Janice grew up in the North Shore area and graduated from Peabody High School in 1950.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Mr. Janice served during the Korean War with 1514th Battery B 529th Field Artillery Battalion and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal.
Prior to his retirement in 1998, he was employed as the warehouse supervisor by the DeMoulas/Market Basket Corporation in Tewksbury, where he worked for over 25 years.
Mr. Janice was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge # 2070.
He enjoyed many activities including preparing his famous meatballs, playing golf, scenic drives to Maine, traveling to Florida, working in his yard and lying in the sun. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by one son, Philip E. Janice of Chelsea; one daughter, Patricia A. Sockey and her husband David of Tewksbury; two grandchildren, Andrew P. and Leah K. Sockey both of Tewksbury; one brother, William Gianacoples of Georgetown; two sisters, Mary Amanti of Beverly and Susan Dennedy of Salem; also many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours Thursday, Oct. 15, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Friday, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, (www.diabetes.org), 330 Congress St., Boston, MA 02210 are requested.
