Obituary

Augusta, GA- Mr. Q. Allen “Chief” Youngblood, 85, entered into rest on Thursday, October 8th at 7:00 pm. He was preceded in death by his wife, and love of his life, Carolyn B. Youngblood.
Al was born and raised in Sterling, Colorado, joined the army at the age of 18, and served in World War II as a communication specialist. Commercial aviation was his life, and he was certified to fly at every level. After retiring as an air traffic controller in the Atlanta and Augusta area, he taught ground school for Augusta Aviation at Daniel Field. Al felt that the highlight of his career was being honored by his peers as the Aviator of the Year at the Boshears Skyfest in 1994. In addition to being a trained meteorologist, Al was a one-man show- actor, artist and musician-whether entertaining his students or working with wood, oils, or his favorite instruments – the concertina and harmonica.
Survivors include his brother Carl Youngblood (Tako) of Albuquerque, NM, sons Bill (Yong) Youngblood of Olympia, WA, and Vic (Gail) Youngblood of Augusta, GA, daughters Nancy Teagle (Bob Miller) of Norcross, GA and Ceil (Steve) Keyes of Portsmouth, OH, stepchildren David (Verna) Brewer of Benton, KY, Leslie (Steve) Wright of Martinez, GA, Ted (Sue) Neelands of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, and 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 5:00pm on Monday, October 12th at Platt’s Funeral Home on North Belair Road. A memorial service will follow at 6:00pm. with Pastor Chuck Moon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Al Youngblood Aviation Scholarship Fund or Boshears Skyfest Air Show at 1775 Highland Ave. Augusta, GA 30904.
