New Bedford-Luciano Amaral, age 66, died Wednesday, October 8, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Maria Estrela (Raposo) Amaral.
Born in São Miguel, Açores he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria Jose (De Sousa) Amaral, he lived in this area for the past 29 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching Soccer.
Mr. Amaral was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart Parish. He was formerly a machine operator at Schaefer Marine until his retirement.
Survivors include his widow; he was the loved father of Rui, Paulo and Zaida Amaral all of New Bedford, Roberto Amaral of Middleboro and Carla Amaral of Swansea. Luciano was the brother of the late Edmundo, Anibal and Floriano Amaral. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Amaral’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Tuesday at 8:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford, MA. at 10 A.M. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
