Obituary

John L. “Jack” Keating, 78, a resident of Winchester for over 36 years, passed away at Beth Israel Hospital on Oct. 3. Born, raised and educated in Melrose, he was the son of the late John J. and Margaret (Byrne) Keating. After high school, Jack attended Miramar Academy at Island Creek in Duxbury. He then spent a year at the seminary of the Society of Divine Ward Missionaries (SVD). In 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Korean War, on the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. DD850. Upon discharge, Mr. Keating enrolled in Merrimack College and graduated with a degree in economics. He moved to Winchester in 1973 and was the Director of Security for Paradigm Properties in Boston. Jack was a lifetime member of the Melrose VFW and a member of the Sons of Italy in Wilmington. As a member of St. Mary’s church in Winchester, he volunteered his skills by serving as a lector during Sunday mass. Mr. Keating was the beloved husband of Irene Catherine (Klements) and the loving father of Christopher J. Keating of Winchester. He is further survived by 2 grandchildren. His funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. Winchester, on Fri., Oct. 9 at 8:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 9:30AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Thurs. 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Centennial, CO 80112.
