FALMOUTH – Georgina (Cordeiro) Tavares, wife of the late Frank Tavares, died at the McCarthy Care Center in E. Sandwich, on Oct. 1, 2009.
She was 92.
Born and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (daEstrella) Cordeiro.
She lived on Walker St. in Falmouth for 53 years, before moving to the Falmouth Harborside Nursing Facility, where she resided for the past 3 years.
A member of the former Daughters of Isabella, Georgie was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, and a member of the St. Patrick Women’s Guild.
A 1990 recipient of the Marian Medal, awarded by Bishop Daniel Cronin, Georgie also received the Our Lady of Good Counsel Award, presented in honor of her dedicated services; including transporting the elderly, and visiting the sick at home, in hospitals and in nursing homes.
She will be fondly remembered as a caregiver, offering comfort and support to anyone in need.
Georgie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking and gardening; as well as jigsaw and word search puzzles.
She leaves two sons, Eugene D. Tavares of Hanover, and Herbert A. Tavares of Plympton; a daughter, Mary Ann Tavares of Cumberland, RI; two brothers, John Cordeiro of Palm Harbor, FL and George Cordeiro of Brockton; two sisters, Vie Heffren of Grass Valley, CA, and Natalie Correia of Centerville; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Thomas N. Tavares, and the sister of the late Manuel, Frank, and Joseph Cordeiro, and the late Mary O’Neil and Yvonne Roberge.
A Funeral Mass will held at St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Square, Taunton on Wednesday, Oct 7th at 10 a.m.
Relatives and friends and friends are invited to attend.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
The family will receive visitors at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway at St. Mary’s Square, (Rte. 138) Taunton on Wednesday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., prior to the Mass.
