Obituary

WORCESTER-Mavroudis “Mike” Kyriakidis, 56, of Worcester died Friday, October 2nd, at 4:20 am, in his home after a courageous fight with small cell cancer. He was the extremely devoted husband for 29 years of Rubina (Mikelatos) Papapetropoulos Kyriakidis. Mike was the devoted son of Apostolia (Frantzis) Kyriakidis of Hrisohorfa, Serron, Greece; loving brother of Kiriakos Kyriakidis of Worcester, caring uncle to Amanda and Matthew Sacino and Nicole Marie White; devoted son in law of Vasiliki Mikelatos of Worcester, loving brother in law to Nicki and her husband John White of Deerfield Beach, FL and Liberty, wife of Mark Sacino of Lighthouse Point, FL; he also leaves aunts, uncles and cousins here and in Greece. His infant brother Kiriakos Kyriakidis predeceased him.
He was born in Hrisohorfa, Serron, Greece; his father was the late Sarantis Kyriakidis. Mr. Kyriakidis had proudly served in the Communication Department of the Greek Army. He had been employed by the City of Worcester, School Department. Mike was a proud member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Cultural Center of Hrisohorafiton-Alexander the Great. His passions included fishing, gardening, and playing cards with friends; he was most passionate about his world travels. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be forever missed.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Kasturi and Dr. Peters of the Levine Cancer Center and to their professional staff for their care and support during this most difficult time. Also heartfelt thanks to the staff at Commonwealth Hematology and Oncology, 299 Lincoln Street for their caring and professionalism and to the UMass Nursing and Hospice Program for the wonderful care they provided to Mike. Last but not least, to all his family and friends for their support and help throughout his ordeal.
The funeral is Monday, October 5th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 11:00 am in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, October 4th from 5:00 until 8:00 pm in the funeral home.
