Obituary

On Sunday, September 27, Michael Tighe lost his battle with cancer and went home to God. He was 79.

At the time of his death, he was a patient at Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Randolph. Michael was born and raised in Roxbury and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School. He was the son of the late Michael and Margaret Tighe, originally from Sligo, Ireland. He was the brother of the late Francis P. Tighe and Mary E. Doyle. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia "Patti" of Hull, brother Daniel of Hyde Park, four nieces and three nephews; Charles, Margaret, Al, Ann-Marie, Regina,
Michael and Elizabeth. He is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews and cousins.

In May 2006, Michael retired from The Venetian, Inc. in Jackson Square, East Weymouth, where he had been a bartender for 21 years. Prior to The Venetian, Michael had been employed at the Essex Hotel as the Head Bartender for 27 years where he met and married his wife of 36 years. He loved tending bar and enjoyed the camaraderie with the customers. Mike had a great sense of humor and a lot of stories. In his youth, Michael had worked at Fenway Park and Braves Field. He was obviously a long time fan of the Red Sox and had seen many of the greats of his day. He was also a fan of the Celtics, Bruins and Patriots. Mike was an avid reader and loved to do crossword puzzles and the Jumble in the Herald. He was a great dancer and loved all types of music. He enjoyed the theater, taking trips and walking the beach with his wife. The ocean was fascinating to him which is one of the reasons he felt so fortunate to live in Hull. Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Hull, and a Malta member of the V.F.W. in Hull, where he enjoyed playing Cribbage and Whist. Volunteering at the Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham and attending daily and Sunday Mass there were other joyous occasions for Michael.
