Manuel A. Oliveira, age 73, of Fall River, passed away September 28, 2009 in North Carolina. Husband of Armanda (Pereira) Oliveira and son of the late Altino Caetano Oliveira and Maria Louisa (Furtado) Oliveira. Born in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores, Mr. Oliveira was a retired Insurance Agent for Neto Insurance Company and was a parishioner of St. Michael Church. He was a member of Our Lady of Light, a past President of the United Steel Workers Union at the Brayton Point Power Plant, he had served in the Portuguese Army for 2 years and he had also been a lifeguard in Portugal for 4 years. He graduated from college in Portugal with a degree in agriculture. He was a very proud and intelligent man who was respected by everyone. He also was very caring and loving towards everyone he met.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 children: Carlos Oliveira of Warwick, Suzanne White of Hendersonville, NC and Sonya Calvano of Somerset; 1 brother: Rev. Gastao Oliveira of Santo Christo Church, Fall River; 7 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Gastao Furtado Oliveira.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. Saturday at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Santo Christo Church at 10:00 AM. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 5-8 PM.
