North Conway, NH—Harold Eric Johnson, 98, passed away on September 26, 2009, in North Conway, NH. Formerly of Holden and Weston, Massachusetts, he was the beloved husband for 67 years of Ruth May (Lidell) the love of his life, who predeceased him in 2002. He leaves his daughter, Pauline Johnson, of North Conway and his best friend and buddy, Pauline’s husband, John Sachetti. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Astrid Perreault of Shrewsbury, several nieces and nephews, and 7 step-grandchildren.
Harold graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and was a plant supervisor for Norton Company until his retirement. Finding retirement boring, he and Ruth moved to Weston to be close to Pauline and Jack and he accepted a teaching position at the Meadowbrook School of Weston. He found great enjoyment in all of the young people and faculty with whom he came in contact and he stayed in touch with many after his second retirement. A deeply devout man, his church and music were always a large part of his life and he sang in Epworth’s choir and was a soloist. He was also a member of a barbershop quartet, the Nortonairs, who sang at resorts throughout New England.
He was an avid woodworker, and his garden in New Hampshire was the pride of his summer. In his later years he loved sitting on his porch in North Conway, enjoying his garden and the view. He was much loved and admired for his tenacity and he will be greatly missed.
