Roscoe C. “R. C.” Newsome, 71, of Tifton died Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Tony Roberts and Dr. Danny Ray will officiate with entombment to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Don Whitaker, Mike Davis, Charles Goodman, George Helms, Luther Overstreet and Brian Atwater will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pine Ridge Baptist Church and members of Hospice of Tiftarea. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 28, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Newsome was born on January 18, 1938 in Norman Park and was the son of Mayo Wade Newsome and Ywone Shealy Newsome, both deceased. He was retired from Tifton Aluminum and a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. He was a United States Air Force Vietnam veteran. He was a Mason and a member of the Amaranth.
Mr. Newsome is survived by his wife, Christine Walker Newsome of Tifton; one brother, Henry A. “Buddy” Newsome of Alapaha; one sister, Ruby Joyce Wilson of Warner Robins; and several nieces and nephews.
