Obituary

Mr. William A. Laliberty, 103, a longtime resident of Lawrence, passed away Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Sutton Hill Nursing Home in North Andover, MA. He was born in Methuen in 1906 to the late Alexander and Marie (Demers) Laliberty. Mr. Laliberty was employed at Merrimac Paper Mill in Lawrence for 37 years, retiring at the age of 72. Mr. Laliberty graduated from Mt. Carmel School in Lawrence and was a parishioner of Saint Patrick’s Church in Lawrence.

As a teenager, Mr. Laliberty started working in the Arlington Mill in Lawrence, where he met the love of his life, Molly E. Carey. They married on May 12, 1928 at Saint Laurence O’Toole Church in Lawrence, and together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage, raising four children. Molly preceded him in death in 1989.

In his younger years, Mr. Laliberty enjoyed gardening, swimming, ice skating, photography and spending time at Salisbury Beach. Mr. Laliberty shared his love of playing cards with all of his family, and taught all of his grandchildren how to play 45's.

Members of his family include his daughter and son-in-law Mary and Joseph Casey of Lawrence, and his son and daughter-in-law Jack and Mary Laliberty of Methuen. He was preceded in death by his sons and daughters-in-law George and Millie Laliberty and William and Linda Laliberty.

He was cherished by many loving family members, including grandchildren William, James, Thomas, Jeffrey, Joyce and Mary Laliberty, Joseph, Tish and Kevin Casey, Ellen Melanson, Frances Allen, Aimee Robinson, Susan LeBlanc, Cheryl Obert, and the late John J. Laliberty, Jr. He also leaves 28 great grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Sutton Hill Nursing Home, especially the staff on the third floor who were so kind and loving in their care.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 28 at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Patrick’s Church in Lawrence.

Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
