Obituary

John "Houston" Jackson, 72, of Tifton died Friday, September 25, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with a private family burial to be held on Monday, September 28, 2009, in Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, Alabama. Members of the I.D. Morgan Sunday School Class of Tifton’s First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Jackson was born on January 31, 1937 in Phenix City, Alabama and was the son of Otis Jackson and Janie Houston Jackson, both deceased. He was a retired tax appraiser and a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He was past president of the Cuthbert Jaycees and a past member of the Phenix City Civitan Club. He had lived in Tifton for nine years.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Bobbie King Jackson of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Gerald Harrison of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Jackson of Greenville, South Carolina; one brother-in-law and his wife, Roger and Joyce King of Columbus; and two grandchildren, Rachel Harrison and Sarah Harrison of Tifton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tift County 4-H, P. O. Box 7548, Tifton, GA 31793.
