Dorothy Zenzal, 82, of Peckville, died Monday at VNA Hospice after an illness. Her husband of 56 years, Joseph E. Zenzal, died in August 2006.
Born April 19, 1927, in Eynon, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Veronica Goodin. She received her education in Archbald schools and graduated from Johnson City High School, Johnson City, N.Y. She was employed by Billig Shoe Co., Peckville, the Tobyhanna Army Depot and ICS, Scranton. She was member of Holy Ghost Church, Olyphant, and was an active member of the Holy Ghost Confraternity of Christian Women. She served as secretary for the First Slovak Wreath of the Free Eagle and an auxiliary member of Blakely Borough Ambulance.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was an avid gardener, baker and pierogi maker.
The family would like to thank Dr. Randall Brundage, Mid-Valley Hospital First South Nurses and the Moses Taylor Hospital Second West Nurses for the loving kindness and care given to their dear mother. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the VNA Hospice Nurses and Dr. Jay Vanston for their never-ending love and special kindness extended to their dear mother in her time of need.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia A. Semon and fiancé, Robert Wagner, Lake Carey; a son, Theodore J. Zenzal and wife, Deborah, Justus; five grandchildren, Kristopher Semon and wife, Theresa, Pittston; Jeffrey Semon, Jessup; Scott Semon, Montdale; T.J. Zenzal, Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Bobby Zenzal, Justus; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Semon, Pittston; a sister, Esther Powanda, Peckville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd, and a sister, Marie DeLarco.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Olyphant. Interment, Holy Ghost Cemetery, Blakely. Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m.
