Sires, Edward “Gene” Eugene
Dr. Edward “Gene” Eugene Sires, 59, of Summerville, cherished husband of Carolyn Hare Sires, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Summerville Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 3:30 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Summerville.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 o’clock at James A Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Dorchester School District No. 2, Rich Reeves Scholarship Fund, 102 Greenwave Blvd. Summerville, SC 29483.
Dr. Sires was born June 6, 1950 in Charleston, SC, son of Betty Cockerill Sires Legare Wichmann and the late Herbert Lee Sires, Jr. He graduated from St. Paul’s High School and received his bachelors, masters, and doctorate from the University of South Carolina. He was the principal of Summerville Elementary School for 27 years. He loved his job dearly and he knew it was his calling. School was a safe place for him as a child, and his mission was that every child who walked through the doors of Summerville Elementary felt loved and protected.
Survivors including his wife and mother are his beloved children: 1 son: Andrew Sires and his girlfriend Jenna Thom of Columbia, SC, 1 daughter: Alison Sires Terry and her husband Christopher of Summerville. Adopted son: Wade Sweat of Rock Hill, SC, 1 grandson: Noah Sires Terry of Summerville, 1 brother: James Sires and his wife Peggy of Charleston, 2 sisters: Anne Beck and her husband Carl of Yonges Island, SC and Betsy Legare of Charleston, SC, and 1 sister-in-law: Cindy Sires of Yonges Island, SC, numerous well loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and 2 brothers: William Lee Sires and Sydney Von Legare.
