Obituary

Glenn Deuward Jones, age 76, of Gales Ferry, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2009 after a brief and brave battle with Cancer at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

Mr. Jones was born in Tazewell, VA on June 3, 1933 to the late Luther D. Jones and Ruby E. Tolbert. He graduated from Tazewell High School in Virginia and served as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army. He then began a long career spanning over 35 years in the automotive services business. He was employed for much of his career by the Navy Exchange at the U.S. Submarine Base in Groton as the Service Station Manager. He later worked as the Service Center Manager at the National Tire Company in Niantic for 16 years before retiring in 1998.

He will be remembered as a kind and loving man who put his family first. He enjoyed working outdoors on his lawn and garden, and taking care of his cars.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia A. Jones of Gales Ferry; a son, James L. Jones and his wife Karen of Salem, CT; a daughter, Carolyn E. DeMaio and her husband Martin of Gales Ferry; a brother, Grover Jones of Tampa, FL; his grandchildren, Daniel Jones, Timothy Jones, Candace Jones, Torence Jones, Maxwell DeMaio and Chloe DeMaio; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Jones. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Mills .

His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 5-7pm. A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted at Elm Grove Cemetery, Rte. 27, Mystic on Thursday at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made in his memory to American Cancer Society, (www.americancancersociety.org).
