Obituary

Albert C. Flahive, 94, of Derry, NH, died September 16, 2009 at the Grace House in Windham, NH. He was born in the Mission Hill Section of Boston, MA on September 24, 1914. He was a graduate of the Mission High School and later received his Bachelors Degree in Physics from Boston College in 1937. He retired from the National Weather Service in 1981 after 43 years of service. In his 40+ years of weather forecasting in the Boston office, he saw service during the great hurricane of 1938; the destructive hurricanes of 1944 and 1954; the Worcester tornado of 1953; the record-breaking snowstorms of 1968-1969 and the memorable blizzard of 1978. For his distinguished service, he received the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal in 1970 and the National Weather Association Outstanding Forecaster of the year award in 1978.
He leaves his beloved daughter, Gertrude Gallagher and her husband Robert of Cohasset, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Gertrude (O’Connell) Flahive in 1992.
Calling hours were held on Friday September 18th from 7-9p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at 10:30a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry.
