Irene Parent, 104, formerly of Main St., Albion, died Wednesday at Oakland Grove in Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Wilfrid Parent who died in 1986.
Born in St. Aime P.Q. Canada, she was a daughter of the late Maxime and Mathilda (Leveillee) Desrosiers. She was raised in St. Aime and came to the United Sates in 1924. She remained a lifelong resident of Albion.
Mrs. Parent worked for Berkshire-Hathaway Mills for many years. After retiring she devoted her life to caring for her family.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Ambrose Parish and a member of St. Anne’s Sodality. She was also a member of the Manville-Albion Seniors. Irene was a devoted wife and mother and she cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Gerard Parent of Swansea, MA, and Roger Parent of CA, two daughters, Fernande Cormier of Cumberland, and Lorraine Bernier of FL., a brother Philias Desrosiers of Manville, and a sister Gilberte Gingras of Cumberland. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Wilfrid, Amherst, Eugene, Raoul, Aurelien, and Louis Desrosiers, Aurore Nault, Flore Desrosiers, and Therese Bissonnette.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 8:30 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Ambrose Church, School St. Albion. Burial will follow in St. Ambrose Cemetery, Albion. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ambrose Parish, 191 School St. Albion, RI. 02802.
