Obituary

Gertrude C. Auger, 91, of Old Main St., Manville, died Monday at Landmark Medical Center.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late George and Leona (Berard) Auger. She was a lifelong resident of Manville.
Ms. Auger worked for the Registry of Motor Vehicles in the Providence office for over 30 years. She was also previously employed at the Manville Jenckes Mill.
Gertrude was a lifelong communicant of St. James Parish and a member of Ladies of St. Anne. She was an active member of the Rhode Island Historical Society.
Gertrude had a special affinity for animals, especially her cats. She enjoyed an active retirement which included many bus trips to various destinations, and participating in many local seniors events. Gert liked to keep up with current events and took comfort in a good book, crossword puzzle, or word search. She was particularly devoted to her extended family and was a staunch Patriots fan.
She is survived by her two sisters, Claire I. Auger and Lillian B. Auger, both of Maplewood, New Jersey. She was the sister of the late George E. and Maurice A. Auger, Florence Scanlon, and her brother-in-law, Edward Scanlon. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Edward, James, and Christine Scanlon, all of VA., and great-nephews and nieces, James, John, Kelly, Daniel and Joseph Scanlon.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St. Manville. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to St. James Parish, 33 Division St. Manville, RI. 02838.
