Obituary

William J. Feil, Sr., 88, of Alton, NH, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 in the Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, NH. Mr. Feil was born in Bronx, NY on August 5, 1921, a son of the late William and Mary T. (Phillips) Feil. He was a resident of Alton for the past four years, formerly living in Derry for over 40 years. Mr. Feil was a US Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific theatre and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was active in the OllI organization, and enjoyed spending time with his family, almost never missing an event for his grandchildren or great grandchildren. Mr. Feil was an eager learner, and enjoyed doing genealogy and traveling when his wife was alive.
He is survived by one son, William J. Feil, Jr. and wife Denise of Merrimack, NH; two daughters, Lynn E. Pingree and husband Edward of Alton, Cathy L. Emerson and husband Ross of Chester, NH; 11 grandchildren; as well as 17 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Elsie M. (Williams) Feil in 2005.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a memorial service was held on Saturday, September 26th at 11:00am in St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 63 E. Broadway, Derry, NH. Private burial will be in the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Osher Life Long Learning Center at Granite State College, 8 Old Suncook Road, Concord, NH 03301
