Robert J. Filippone
...dual career Probation Officer and Hospital Technician; 79
TEWKSBURY - Robert J. Filippone, age 79, a Veteran of the U.S. Army, died Wednesday morning, September 16, at the Blaire House of Tewksbury, after a short period of declining health.
He was born in Chelsea, Mass, on January 16, 1930, a son of the late Ralph and Elsie (Brown) Filippone, and was raised in Chelsea. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School, and went on to graduate Boston College. He lived the greater part of his life in Rockland, and moved to Tewksbury five years ago.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Photographic Laboratory Technician during the peacetime period between WWII and the Korean War.
He worked for over 30 years in dual careers as a Probation Officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and concurrently as an X-Ray Technician at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots football team, and was in attendance for many games including two Super Bowl appearances.
He was the brother of the late Ralph Filippone and was father of five children.
Friends will be received on Monday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Sept. 21, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Committal services were held Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 22, at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Cape Cod. Memorials to the Malden Catholic High School, 99 Crystal St., Malden, MA 02148-0573, will be appreciated.
