Obituary

John T. Weldon, 86years, of West Bridgewater formerly of Brockton died Wednesday September 9, 2009 at the New England Sinai Hospital after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth F.“Betty” (Gaffey)Weldon for 60 years. John was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Joseph P. and Elizabeth F. (Dorgan) Weldon and was a 1941 graduate of Brockton High School. He had lived in Brockton for most of his life before moving to West Bridgewater 10 years ago.
John served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II as an aerial gunner on a B-24 in the Pacific Theatre in which he flew 26 combat missions. He had worked at the Massachusetts Correctional Institute at Bridgewater for 40 years, retiring in 1987 as assistant deputy superintendent.
John was an avid Red Sox Fan,enjoyed music and vacations in Cape Cod and Florida. He treasured the time spent with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a lifetime communicant of St. Colman Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his six children and their spouses Jack and Jeanne Weldon of Brookline; Peggy and Tom Maistros of Dorchester; Maureen and Paul Helfrich of Sante Fe, NM; Larry and Liz Weldon of Bridgewater; Patty and Doug Oakley of Weymouth and Chris and Craig Trombly of Plymouth. He was the grandfather of Jenna, Jimmy, John Patrick, Andrea, George, David, Megan and John Zachary. He also leaves a sister Alice K. Cyr of Brockton and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123)Brockton Monday at 10 am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish/St. Colman Church at 11 am. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
