Obituary

Catherine J. “Kay” Turcotte, 97, passed away at the Winchester Hospital on September 8th, 2009. She was born in Fitchburg on February 2nd, 1912 to her parents Cornelius and Julia (Shea) Driscoll. Kay was raised in Fitchburg where she attended St. Bernard’s School. She has been a resident of Malden for most of her adult life. For many years, Kay worked as a secretary at the State House. She worked under both Governor Volpe and Governor Herter. She also worked at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Boston and Malden, retiring as the office manager after more than 25 years of service. Kay was a co-founder of the Immaculate Conception Parish 60 Club in Malden. She enjoyed many trips and activities with the club over the years. She was also a member of the Melrose Garden Club, Catholic Daughters and the Daughters of Isabelle. When Kay was in her 70’s, she returned to school and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Bunker Hill Community College. She is survived by her children, Richard Turcotte and his wife Joy of Malden and Kathy Dasho and her husband Robert of Stoneham; by her grandchildren, Ben and Sean Turcotte and Steven Dasho; and by her siblings, Mary Mullahy of Fitchburg, John Driscoll of Arizona, Rita Driscoll of Fitchburg, Peggy Testarmata of West Boylston and Neil Driscoll of Swampscott. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her husband Hubert T. Turcotte and by her siblings Madeline, Edward, Bernard and Theresa Driscoll, Nora Walsh, Pauline Thomas and Eileen Pernokas. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Saturday September 12th at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 9 AM. Services will conclude with interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Fitchburg at 11:30 AM. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday September 11th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Bread of Life, 511 Main St., Malden, MA 02148.
