Obituary

CHELMSFORD - George E. Fries, 81, a resident of Chelmsford, died Monday, September 7th, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Dianne B. (Smith) Fries, with he celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary on August 30th.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 17, 1928, and he was a son of the late George and Matilda (Sauer) Fries. He received his education in Brooklyn schools.

Mr. Fries proudly served his country as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a mechanic by Marianel Transportation in Lowell. Earlier in his career was was employed as a mechanic by General Tires in Burlington.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and stock car racing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward Fries and Joseph Fries, both of Chelmsford; a brother, Donald Fries and his wife Lucille of Medford, NY; three sisters, Dolores Krug of Floral Park, NY, Audrey Campaini and her husband George of Ridge, NY, and Joan Zecchitella and her husband Tony of Bluffton, SC; two brothers-in-law, Brian Smith of Lowell, and Ronald Smith and his wife Lucy of Merrimack, NH; a sister-in-law Kathleen Hamilton and her husband Walter of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Corine Fries, son-in-law of the late Doris and Glenn Smith, and brother-in-law of the late Cyndi Golas.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Thursday from 4 until 8 PM. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10 AM at the Grace Community Church in Chelmsford. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church. Interment in Lowell Cemetery.
