John J. Wilkinson, Jr., 72, of Mansfield passed away at home on Thursday September 3, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Catherine M. (Walsh) Wilkinson.
Born in Fall River, MA he was a son of the late John J., Sr. and Marie (Perron) Wilkinson.
Jack grew up in Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of the former Commerce High School in Boston.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Wilkinson was an employee of Norwood Hospital for 31 years, during which time he served as Linen Director and also in Engineering
Jack was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, where he also served as a former collector. He made his home in Mansfield for the past 41 years. Mr. Wilkinson’s family was the most important part of his life and he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his dear children Carol Stone and her husband Eric of Mansfield; Donna Hallgren and her husband David of Mansfield; Janice Wilkinson of Attleboro; and Lynne Schromm and her husband John of Attleboro. He was the brother of William Wilkinson of Willingboro, New Jersey and the late Rita Wilkinson. He was the special grandfather of Eric and Jason Colby; Brett, Jill and Sheila Hallgren; Garett and Kelsey Schromm; and his 3 great grandchildren Devan, Morgan and Nolan.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday September 8th at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St.(Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday September 7th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice Three Edgewater Drive Norwood, MA 02062.
