Augusta, GA – Mr. Jimmy Jennings Ford, age 74, beloved husband of Mrs. Beverly Wright Ford entered into rest on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Crawford Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Riley officiating. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Mr. Ford worked as a general contractor. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, and also attended the Georgia Teachers College from 1954-1955 where he played baseball and basketball. Mr. Ford was an avid Georgia football fan and will be remembered by friends, family, and colleagues as the “Best Builder in Augusta” .
In addition to his loving wife Mr. Ford is survived by his two daughters, Katherine Margaret Ford and Angel Hayes and husband Bill all of Augusta; his son, David Ford of Dearing; his brothers, James Furman Ford and wife Ann of Hephzibah, and Robert Keith Ford and wife Shirley of North Augusta; his sisters, Frances Ford Strickland of Augusta, and Esther Ford Ingram and husband Richard of Evans; his six grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Louis Garcia, Pedro Ufret, Steve Dye, Craig Peeples, Luther Kirby, and Kelvin Evans.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Poppell, Ray Allen, Jesse Norman, Alvin Hair, Carl Sanders, Claude McCord, and Terry Joiner.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 3, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
