Obituary


Mr. Rene W. Poirier, of Taunton, died suddenly Tuesday, September 1 in the Brigham and Womens Hospital, Boston. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Baker)Poirier for 47 years. He was born 71 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Joseph
C. and Gilberte (Marcotte) Poirier. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Department of Corrections as a trainer in Medfield for 15 years. He previously was self-employed as a barber, having operated Rene’s Barber Shop in Taunton for 8 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. Mr. Poirier was a musician who played drums and bass guitar for several groups in the Taunton area. He was a longtime member of the John Parker Municipal Golf Course in Taunton, where he had many friends. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves:
1 son: Joseph E. Poirier and his wife, Deena of Weston, Fla.
1 daughter: Michele M. Mozzone and her husband, Joseph of Rehoboth
1 brother: George Poirier of Enfield, Ct.
1 sister: Doris Murphy of Lakeville
6 grandchildren: Lydia Mozzone, Meredith Mozzone, Catherine Mozzone, Jillian
Poirier, Brendan Poirier, and Madeleine Poirier
several nieces and nephews
Mr. Poirier was also the brother of the late Alfred Poirier and Raymond Poirier.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street,
on Saturday, September 5 at 10:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
