Obituary

TAUNTON – George W. Rodgers, 89, died at Morton Hospital on Aug. 29, 2009.
He was the husband of the late Evelyn E. (Mason) Rodgers, who predeceased him this past June.
Born in Raynham, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Coelho) Rodgers.
Educated in area schools, Mr. Rodgers was a graduate of Taunton High School.
A carpenter by trade, he worked for Wheaton College as a maintenance man for many years, before retiring several years ago.
Prior to joining the Wheaton College staff, he worked for some time as realtor.
Mr. Rodgers enjoyed traveling, gardening, and cooking.
A former communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church, he moved to Yarmouth with his wife in 1998, before moving back to Taunton recently.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Cunniff of Raynham; two brothers, Joseph Rodgers of Taunton and William Rodgers of CT; a sister, Evelyn M. Rodgers of Taunton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was the father of the late Virginia Lowry and the brother of the late Genevieve Goodwyn.
Visitation will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Saturday, Sept. 5th from 1 to 2 p.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
