SPENCER__Arthur W. Nelson, 83, formerly of Worcester died Sunday, August 30, 2009, in his home. His wife of 55 years, Eugenia (Matulis) Nelson died in 2006.
He leaves two sons, Stephen Nelson and his wife, Laura of East Falmouth; Christopher Nelson and his wife, Laurie of Thompson, CT., a daughter, Maryann Smith and her husband, Vernon of Spencer, with whom he lived, a brother, Donald Nelson of St. Louis, MO., six grandchildren, Matthew, Marissa, Cassandra, Benjamin, Amanda and Pamela, and one great-grandchild, Sydney Rose. He was predeceased by twin granddaughters, Jacqueline and Elizabeth. He was born in Worcester, a son of Arthur W. and Ruth (Leetin) Nelson and lived in Worcester most of his life.
Mr. Nelson retired from Automatic Rolls of New England as a supervisor and previously was a baker many years at Table Talk Bakery. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving as an aviation ordinance specialist. He graduated from Worcester Boy's Trade High School. Arthur was a member of St. Casimir Church, Worcester. He also was a long standing member of the Worcester Homing Pigeon Club, a hobby since his youth. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a “simple and wonderful man”.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 3, from DIRSA - MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
