Obituary

PLYMOUTH-Liberty F. (Fotiades) Kontos, 90, of 68 Beach Street died Tuesday, August 12th in Mayflower Nursing Home. Her husband, Nicholas Kontos died in 2000. She leaves a stepson, James Kontos of Waltham; 2 stepdaughters, Mina Davos of Chestnut Hill and Pauline Berliss of Needham; 2 brothers, Louis G. Fotiades of Raliegh, NC and Alexander G. Fotiades of Marstons Mills; 8 grandchildren; great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. 3 brothers, Michael Fotiades, Nicholas Fotiades and Christopher Fotiades and a sister, Bessie Vestarhis predeceased her.

She was born in Johannesburg, South Africa the daughter of George M. and Maria (Laurens) Fotiades spending her childhood in Greece and moving to Worcester in 1921. She attended Worcester Schools. Mrs. Kontos was a homemaker who volunteered at Hahnamenn Hospital and many other charities and an active blood donor during WWII. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester and a member of its Philoptochos Society and a member of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Cape Cod for the last 35 years.

The funeral will be Thursday, August 14th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Manomet Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, August 13th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, Massachusetts, 01609-1908.
