Obituary

Carroll Wright Purvis, 72, of Chula passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Klay Luke will officiate with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Ed Moore, Eddie Moore, Roger Mangham, Sid Roberson, Ken Waddell and Charles Chestnut will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday school class of Northside Baptist Church.

Mr. Purvis was born on September 24, 1936 in Douglas and was the son of Archie Purvis and Ora Tucker Purvis, both deceased. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1954 and from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 1956 with an Associates degree. He then graduated from the University of Georgia in 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree of Science, Forestry. He was a Theta Chi Fraternity member at the University of Georgia and a member of the Tifton Jaycees, the Tifton Kiwanis Club, the American Society of Foresters, the Tifton Elk’s Club and the American Association of Certified Appraisers. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed working in his yard. He enjoyed being a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class at Northside Baptist Church.

Mr. Purvis was retired as the senior executive vice president of the Federal Land Bank Association, a real estate appraiser and licensed realtor. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and serves on the Tifton-Tift County Zoning Board. He had lived in Tift County since 1965. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Mr. Purvis is survived by his wife, Willene Purvis of Chula; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Nancy Purvis of Hahira; one granddaughter, Maggie Purvis of Hahira; one brother, Herman Purvis of Douglas; special family, Ann Exum, Alli Exum, Amy Luke, Klay Luke, John-Klayton Luke and Barbara Jean McDonald, all of Hahira; and special friends, Ed and Jean Moore, Sid and Melanie Roberson, Mandy and Roger Mangham and Eddie and Marie Moore.
