Obituary


Daniel D. Wihby, 66, of Manchester, died August 29, 2009 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack following a period of declining health.

He was born in Manchester on December 9, 1942, the son of Joseph H. and Freda (Attalla) Wihby. He was a lifelong resident of the city. He graduated from Bakersville Grammar School, Manchester High School Central, class of 1960 and the University of New Hampshire, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He earned his master’s degree from Rivier College in 1982.

He was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American Legion, Henry J. Sweeney Post #2 in Manchester.

For many years, Dan served as an Assistant to United States Senator Judd Gregg in the Senator’s Manchester office. In the political seasons, he was Field Director for the Senator’s election campaigns. He also played key advisory and hands-on roles in many other campaigns, national, state, and local. Prior to his full-time association with Senator Gregg, he was also for a time employed with the State of New Hampshire Crime Commission and the New Hampshire Office of Emergency Management.

Locally, he was an appointed member of the Manchester Board of Voter Registrars.

He was pre-deceased by a brother, Philip and two sisters, Susan and Linda.

Family members include many cousins, among them the David Wihby family of Manchester.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 in Our Lady of the Cedars Church, corner of Mitchell Street and Calef Road. Burial with military honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St, Bedford.
