Worcester—Ruth E. (Mickelson) Johnson, 85, formerly of Holden, died at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home August 27, 2009, after an illness.
Her husband of 53 years, Edward, predeceased her in 1999. They had observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. Ruth leaves a son, Paul E. Johnson and his wife, Jane, of Auburn; 3 grandsons: Erik Johnson, Glenn Johnson and his wife Heather all of Auburn and Peter Johnson and his wife Amber of Alabama; 8 great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Rebecca, Victory and Christian of Auburn and Trey, Emily, Allison and Jackson of Alabama; and her nephew, Richard Grusell and his wife Barbara of Spencer, as well as another nephew and a niece.
Ruth was born in Worcester, the daughter of Erik A. and Edla (Matson) Mickelson, and lived in Holden for over 40 years before moving back to Worcester. She graduated from the former Commerce High School and worked for more than 20 years in the accounting department of the former Worcester Mutual Insurance Company. Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years; a lectern, member of the Lydia and Anna Circles, Trinity Travel Group, former Trinity Sick Benefit Society, Holden Chaffins Women's Club, Scandinavian Women’s Club, and Greendale Women's Club. She loved music and travel. She enjoyed her family times in Maine and the Cape, and most of all being a homemaker and a grandmother.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 30th, from 4-6 p.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 31st, at 11:00 a.m. in the Nave of Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street, Worcester MA 01609. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery.
